Gainesville Republicans to pick Gainesville Supervisor nominee Jan. 2 instead of Jan. 4

The Prince William Republican Chairman, Denny Daugherty has moved to Jan. 2, the mass meeting to select a Republican nominee for the Prince William County Board of Supervisors special election for the Gainesville District. 

The mass meeting will be at the Park Valley Church, 4500 Waverly Drive, Haymarket, VA. Registration begins at 5 PM, and the meeting at 7 PM. The change became necessary when the Circuit Court issued the writ for the special election on Dec. 27. State law gives the political parties 5 days after the issuance of a writ for a special election to certify its nominees. The Republican Committee anticipated this possibility and gave its chairman authority to make any changes needed. The meeting was originally planned for Jan. 4 at Battlefield High School.

All legal and qualified voters of Gainesville Magisterial District of Prince William County, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who sign a written promise to support the Republican nominee, may participate in the meeting. Voters can pre-register at http://www.pwcgop.gop until 5 PM on Saturday, Dec. 31.  Voters can also register at the meeting by presenting legal ID. There are no fees to attend the meeting but donations to defray costs are welcome. 

Voting on the Republican nominee will be by secret ballot, with candidates listed on the ballot in an order determined by drawing lots on Dec. 29. Candidate filing closes at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The Special Election to choose the candidate to fill out the remainder of the Gainesville Supervisor’s term will be held on Feb. 21, the GOP said in a news release.
