Sixteen of the 6000+ Class of 2018 graduates who plan to become teachers and welders as well as graduates who plan careers science/applied science, or in STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Fields (CTE have received scholarships from SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, according to a PWCS news release. The 16 scholarships are worth $31,500+.
Dr. Edward L. Kelly Memorial Scholarships provide financial support to three graduating high school seniors who plan to become teachers. The late Dr. Kelly was Superintendent of PWCS for 18 years.
The recipients are: ErinGrace Drake - Battlefield High School, Emily Johnson and Xavier Smith – Colgan High School and Karen Cortez – Hylton High School.
Micron and Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarships recognize five graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a professional certification or a career in STEM fields.
The Micron-Lockheed Martin scholarship recipients are Jeremy Kochan and Noah Wong – Battlefield High School, Gabriel Martin – Gar-Field High School and Nicholas Buie and Lydia Fozo – Forest Park High School.
Red Lawson Scholarship Program provides scholarships to PWCS graduates who:completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plan to pursue a Professional Certification, an Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree, or an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree.
Red Lawson scholarship recipients are Anna Achiaa and Rodrigo Salas-Hidalgo, both graduates of Osbourn Park High School.
Red Lawson Scholarship Program also provides scholarships to PWCS graduates who completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plans to pursue a CTE plan of study at a post-secondary institute.
These Red Lawson scholarship winners are Harjot Singh – Stonewall Jackson High School and Miranda Choplin – Woodbridge High School.
Also receiving scholarships from SPARK are Elizabeth Meldrum – Brentsville District High School and Amanda Hish – Patriot High School who participated in the License Practical Nursing program and are continuing a plan of study in nursing and Nicholas Dusak and Jose Paita, both graduates of Potomac High School, who participated in the Welding program and is continuing a plan of study in welding.
Chick-fil-A Prince William County Scholarship awards a $4,000 scholarship to one graduating high school senior. The recipient is Rachel Hish of Patriot High School.
