Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue has recognized Freedom Center lifeguards Jeff Phillips and Robert Farrow for the excellent job they performed in saving a young life on Dec. 5, according to a news release.
At approximately 7 p.m. fire and rescue units were dispatched to a drowning at the Freedom Aquatics & Fitness Center in Manassas. When crews arrived, they observed lifeguards Phillips and Farrow attending to a young swimmer who was alert, oriented, pale and frightened.
The swimmer had been playing with friends in the pool but suddenly became dizzy and confused.
Farrow recognized the swimmer was in trouble and quickly entered the pool and removed the child. Phillips immediately responded to assist Farrow and the two began “two rescuer CPR.”
Upon completion of the third cycle, the child showed signs of life.
EMS assessed the child’s vitals, contacted the parents and began transport to a local medical facility for further medical treatment.
If not for the lifeguards quick response and administration of CPR, the outcome could have been tragic, the news release said.
