Foxcroft School invites students and parents from the community to attend Nov. 5 college night

If the college admission process seem mysterious, students and parents in the community are invited to glean tips and insights from three admission officers from top colleges on Thursday, Nov. 5 when Foxcroft School in Middleburg will present a very special “Selective College Admission Panel”  in Engelhard Gymnasium at 7pm.

Calvin Wise, John Hopkins University Senior Associate Director of Admissions, will head the distinguished panel, which includes assistant deans from Davidson College and Emory University. The event is free and open to all those interested in the college process.

Darren Morgan of Davidson and Brandi Smith of Emory—both assistant deans of Admission —will join Wise on the panel. Each officer will talk about the admission process, trends they see and the best ways that students can prepare themselves for the competitive application review process at highly selective colleges and universities such as their home institutions.

Barbara Conner, Director of College Counseling at Foxcroft since 2011, has built a superb college counseling process during her tenure. She emphasizes students getting to know their own needs—learning styles, career interests and so forth—to help find institutions that are truly good matches for them. Her article about her ground-breaking “Five First-Class Colleges” approach for students was published last year in the National Association of College Admission Counselors’ spring magazine.

Founded in 1914, Foxcroft is a college-preparatory boarding and day school for girls in grades 9-12.  It offers 75+ courses, including 17 APs and an innovative STEM program and fields athletic teams in nine sports, including a nationally-known riding program and a state champion lacrosse team. The student body is comprised of 167 girls from 18 states, 14 countries, and the District of Columbia. About one-third of the students receive financial assistance; 25 percent are international students, and 16 percent are students of color. For more information, call 540-687-4340.
