Occupants of a house on Omni Court in Dale City discovered a rapidly spreading fire on the home’s enclosed deck around dinner time Feb. 15 and attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, according to Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Matt Smolsky of Prince William Fire and Rescue.
Smolsky said the occupants of this house were fortunate to discover the fire before smoke entered the structure, and the home’s smoke detectors did eventually activate. Chief Tim Keen asks everyone to check their smoke detectors monthly. Keen said that smoke detectors are the best way to protect you, your family, and your pets. When a smoke detector activates get out and call 9-1-1, Keen added.
