Five apply to temporarily fill Brentsville School Board seat; hearing Sept. 7

Residents are invited to speak at a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 about the selection of an interim acting Prince William County School Board member to represent the Brentsville District seat during the military deployment of elected member Gil Trenum.

The slate of applicants includes Christopher Park, Douglas Hunter Porterfield, Tara Ann Tadlock, JerMonica Boose-Davis, and Shawn L. Brann.

The public hearing will be held just prior to the regular School Board meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in the School Board meeting room at the Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas.

Residents may sign up to speak at the public hearing by contacting the Clerk to the School Board by telephone or email ( .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)), no later than noon on the day of the hearing. Those wishing to speak may also sign up in person from 6-6:55 p.m. on the night of the meeting.

Each speaker will be provided up to three minutes to make comments. Applicants for the position are also invited to speak for up to five minutes. Only those whose names are considered at the public hearing will be eligible for appointment as the interim School Board member.

The regular School Board meeting will follow the public hearing. Those who plan to speak during citizens’ comment time are asked to speak during the public hearing if their comments relate to the appointment of an interim member for the Brentsville seat.

The School Board plans to vote on the interim appointment at its regular School Board meeting on Sept. 21. Contact the School Board Office at 703.791.8709 for additional information.

Trenum, a longtime officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, has been ordered to active duty in Djibouti, Africa for approximately one year. Trenum, who retains his office, will retake his seat and resume his term upon his return, which is expected to be prior to the start of the 2017-18 school year
