STATEMENT OF ATTORNEY GENERAL HERRING
~ On conclusion of Charlottesville Police investigation into alleged instance of sexual violence ~
Attorney General Mark R. Herring issued the following statement on the results of the Charlottesville Police Department’s investigation into the alleged instance of sexual violence portrayed in Rolling Stone magazine:
“I appreciate the diligence, professionalism, and compassion shown by Chief Longo and his officers in thoroughly investigating this situation. We know that sexual violence is a real problem on college campuses and we have not wavered in our commitment to addressing it. I have been proud to chair Governor McAuliffe’s Task Force on Combating Campus Sexual Violence, and in just a few weeks, we will present him with recommendations to improve the way we prevent and respond to reports of sexual violence on Virginia campuses. This issue will not, and should not, be pushed back into the shadows.”
Attorney General Herring is chair of Governor Terry McAuliffe’s Task Force on Combating Campus Sexual Violence. The Task Force has been meeting since October, has presented draft recommendations, and will present its final report to the Governor in June.
