Fauquier teacher making another bid for delegate seat held by Lingamfelter

Sara Townsend (D-Fauquier) announced her candidacy Feb. 13 for the 31st House of Delegates seat currently held by Scott Lingamfelter.

This is her second bid for the seat. In 2015, Townsend was the Democratic nominee in the 31st district and was defeated by a little over 1,200 votes in what was one of the closest delegate races in Virginia that year.

“As a middle school civics teacher, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges we face in Virginia’s public schools,” Townsend was quoted as saying in a press release. “I want to bring a fresh perspective to Richmond. It’s time for new ideas in the House of Delegates and I want to fight for our schools and for good paying jobs here in the 31st.”

“As Delegate, I will listen to all of my constituents and I look forward to having the opportunity to serve as your voice in the General Assembly.”

A native Virginian, Sara grew up in Prince William and Fauquier counties and earned both her B.A. and M.Ed at George Mason University.

The 31st House of Delegates district runs from Southern Fauquier County across to Dale City in Prince William County.
