Fauquier County Public Schools will participate in an earthquake drill on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:15 a.m. The drill is part of the fourth annual Great SouthEast ShakeOut, a multi-state simultaneous earthquake drill in which participants practice the recommended action to take during an actual earthquake.
(Secondary schools that may be testing at the time of the drill will conduct the drill another day during the week.)
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reminds participants that the recommended action is known as “Drop, Cover and Hold On” as follows.
Drop to the ground.
Take cover by getting under a sturdy desk or table.
Hold on to it until the shaking stops.
The drill will provide an opportunity for Fauquier County Public Schools to promote readiness in the event of an actual emergency.
