Family of three loses home when trailer involved in fire

Early this morning Monday, July 8, 2024 at 2:25 AM Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched to the17600 block of Washington Street in the Town of Dumfries when a trailer faire was reported.

An adult occupant and two children were forced to escape the fire by exiting the mobile home through a window prior to emergency units arriving, said Matt Smolsky, assistant fire chief and fire marshal.

The fire was quickly extinguished.  Crews arrived with fire showing from the rear deck area. The Red Cross responded to assist the adult and two children displaced by the fire. The adult occupant was transported to a nearby medical facility with a non-life-threatening injury.  The home sustained significant damage and was posted unsafe to occupy by the Town of Dumfries Building Official.

Smolsky added, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
