The Virginia House of Delegates passed the Equal Rights Amendment on Wednesday, Jan. 15, becoming the 38th state to ratify and add women to the Constitution, according to a news release from Del. Hala Ayala (D-51) of Lake Ridge, a Chief Co-Patron of this resolution.
“As a single mother and Afro-Latina woman, I have personally witnessed and experienced the discrimination that impacts marginalized communities. Today’s ratification of the Equal Rights
Amendment is a major step forward in achieving equality for all Americans.” Del. Ayala was quoted as saying in a news release.
Ayala has been among the legislative leaders for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment since joining the General Assembly in 2018. Her news releas said her “major legislative priorities center around providing equality and equity to all Virginians.”
