According to a news release, ACTS Emergency Homeless Shelter suffered major water damage on the evening of Monday, Jan. 28, and has had to be closed until repairs are made.
Rebekah McGee said ACTS staff pulled together throughout the night to find alternative temporary housing arrangements for the 22 residents.
McGee said in a news release, “They did a great job ensuring that the families were re-housed and important items relocated to safe dry places. Many thanks to the county staff from the fire department, inspector’s office and town of Dumfries who provided excellent support,”
It appears that the sprinkler system upstairs malfunctioned and caused the damage, the ACTS official said.
At this time, ACTS staff has not been not able to totally assess the damage or long-term needs for donations. “We appreciate the community’s support and concern and will provide periodic updates as we work together to house our neighbors in need,” the press release stated.
ACTS anticipates being able to complete repairs and be up and running as soon as possible.
