Significant Fire Incident

The Prince William County Building Official declared a two-story home in Dumfries unsafe for occupancy following a fire May 18.
Fire & rescue units were dispatched at 7:53 p.m.to the 18000 block of Crossroads Ct. (Dumfries) for occupants reporting their home was on fire. Crews arrived to find a working fire and the occupants safely evacuated from the home. No injuries were reported.
According to Deputy Fire and Rescue Chief Matt Smolsky, the single-family home sustained moderate damage and was declared unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The Red Cross responded to assist the two adult occupants. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire was ignition from a laser engraving appliance.
