A bigger and better Dumfries Neighborhood Library recently opened in the Triangle Shopping Plaza, and people are excited about it. During a recent ribbon cutting, a crowd of about 50 packed the library, with its two community rooms, a larger childrens’ area and more public access computers.
Potomac District Supervisor Maureen S. Caddigan said she was pleased for the residents who will use the library, “This is a great day. A great day for the residents of the Town of Dumfries, for Triangle, for Quantico.”
Vanessa Keeler, of Triangle, often took her children to the old library, which was located across the street in the Dumfries Shopping Center for more than 30 years. When asked about the news library, she said, “I think it’s fabulous. I attended the library for years across the street. I’ve taken my kids. Now I’m taking my grandson and my grandkids. This is large. I love the new computers. It looks like it’s up-to-date now. I loved the old library because of the quaintness, but this one I love even more.”
Perrin Palistrant, came to the ribbon cutting with his son, Jake “It’s nice to have something new in the area and get people to come out and take advantage of the services.”
Joline Adoyemand, 7, also came to the opening and approved of the new library. “I love the books and all the stuff that’s here.”
Prince William County Library Board of Trustees member, Corinne Doerr, said people expect a lot from their libraries these days. “The libraries are more than just about books anymore. They’re community centers. Where jurisdictions across the country are closing, we’re building and expanding.”
According to the library communications department, the library board decided to move the library to provide better options for a growing community with demands for newer, more up-to-date services. Library proffer funds paid for the one-time relocation costs, as well as the installation of technology, communications, furniture, electronic security and signage.
