Prince William County Fire and Rescue units nits were dispatched to the 3800 blk of Port Hope Point (Dumfries) Sunday afternoon at 2:38 p.m. on May 19, after a citizen reported his neighbor’s town house was on fire, according to Deputy Fire Chief Matt Smolsky.
When crews arrived, they saw smoke showing from the two-story townhouse. A fire was quickly located in the home’s kitchen and extinguished. No one was home at the time of the incident.
A Building Official determined that the townhouse was unsafe to occupy, displacing two adults and five children. One adult and three children were assisted by the Red Cross. The Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed the accidental fire originated in the kitchen. The actual cause remains under investigation, Smolsky said.
