At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 a Manassas City Police Officer was struck by a vehicle while conducting a routine traffic stop on Rt 28 near Phoenix Dr.
According to witnesses, the officer was speaking to the driver of a stopped vehicle in the 8700 block of Centreville Rd when a black Ford swerved off the road and struck both her and the stationary vehicle.
The driver of the Ford then voluntarily came to a stop on Phoenix Dr where he was met by responding units. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Alexander M. Bacon (25) of 2559 Peter Jefferson Lane, Herndon, VA 20171 was charged with Texting While Driving, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended Operator’s License (3rd Offense), and Failure to Proceed with Caution or Yield to Right of Way by Lane Change Lane to Stationary Vehicle Displaying Flashing Blue, Red, or Amber Lights.
He was held on a $5,000.00 secured bond and has a pending court date of September 9, 2013, according to a Manassas City police report.
