When it comes to giving back to others, a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson says it best. “ … to appreciate beauty; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
The women who make up the Dominion Woman’s Club have attained that level of success since they are making life a whole lot easier for others. Stephanie Sturges is the current president of the Dominion Woman’s Club (DWC), which is made up of about 70 women from Prince William and Fauquier counties. The club is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Virginia.
DWC’s mission is to improve the community by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The club encourages members to apply their unique abilities, talents and special sensitivity to help address needs locally and nationally. The club’s philosophy is “Unity in Diversity,” where differing strengths, unique perspectives and varied experiences are celebrated realizing more can be accomplished together than alone.
“Bridging Gaps in the Community” is Sturges’ motto during her presidential term; the club has been doing just that. As a stay-at-home mother in Warrenton, Sturges proves she has steady “staying-power,” fortitude and determination in her desire to help others. Completing her second year as DWC president, she has been a member since the club’s first meeting Feb. 18, 2007 held in the home of Nanette McKeel Petrella in Dominion Valley. In June, the presidential reins will be passed to Sandy Malinowski.
