With the help of a grant, Prince William Public Libraries are reporting that they have been able to extend library services to more community members who, for various reasons, cannot come to the libraries.
Last month Prince William Public Libraries started to offer job training workshops to Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC). Students learned about many vocational career options, how to navigate trade schools, how to start and run a business, and the best practices for applying for positions.
“Our students have greatly benefited from the library’s intervention with career and self-exploration skills trainings. The students were taught how to be goal oriented and tap into their strengths, skills and talents to put their best foot forward when applying for jobs when they leave the detention setting. They also gained much needed professional contacts,” said the Juvenile Detention Center’s literacy coach, who was not identified in the news release.
This initiative was made possible by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s 2021 Youth Literacy Grant, https://www.dgliteracy.org .
