DOC vehicle involved in fatal accident
At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, a Virginia Department of Corrections divertee transportation vehicle was involved in a single vehicle accident at the intersection of US Rte. 301 and VA Rte. 3 in King George County.
The cause of the accident is not known; the accident is under investigation by the King George County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.
The vehicle was transporting nine divertees back from a worksite in the Stafford area.
The divertees were from the Stafford Diversion Center.
The driver of the vehicle, an employee of the Stafford Diversion Center, and the nine divertees were taken to the hospital, where the driver died at approximately 6:30 a.m. as a result of his injuries.
