Deluge causes school closures
Three days of rain, some of it pelting rain, caused flooding alerts and school closures. Prince William County Schools were closed on Friday, Sept. 9.
Traffic for the afternoon commute on Sept. 8 was a nightmare. Commuters who travel on 495 may have experienced traffic at a standstill.
On Sept. 9, some area roads were covered with water. TV news stations were showing pictures of cars sitting in hood-deep water.
According to the National Weather Service’s radar online application, Prince William County received between six and 15 inches of rain from 1 p.m. Sept. 5 through 11 a.m. Sept. 9. The eastern end of the county received the most rainfall.
Fauquier County received a couple inches less than western Prince William County.
By 1 p.m. Sept. 9, the sun was shining and the day was brightening considerably.
