The Democratic National Committee reports that Virginia Delegate Danica Roem (D-13-Prince William) will be a featured speaker and special guest at the upcoming 19th annual DNC LGBTQ Gala. Roem will become the first openly transgender elected official to speak at a major party gala in U.S. history.
Last year, the voters in Virginia’s 13th district elected Roem to represent them in Richmond. With Roem’s historic victory, she ousted a Republican to become the first transgender person to ever serve in a state legislature.
“Danica Roem is a brilliant public servant and one of our nation’s most passionate voices for equality,” DNC Chair Tom Perez was quoted as saying in a news release. “Even in the face of hatred and bigotry from this administration, Danica has never stopped fighting for the issues that matter to the hardworking families she represents. And there’s no question that her community is stronger for her leadership and her commitment to the Democratic values of inclusion and opportunity for all. “
The 19th annual gala will take place on June 25th in New York City.
