Covenant Christian Academy at Vint Hill to build additional classroom space

Four months after cutting the ribbon on its newly-renovated, 16,500-square-foot building, Covenant Christian Academy, K-12 school at Vint Hill, has announced a building expansion to increase classroom space by about 30 percent. The expansion will add 6,000 square feet of classroom space adjacent to the school’s current facilities, according to a news release.

The school’s new wing will house a new computer lab, engineering lab, student lounge, meeting rooms, and several other high school classrooms. A 360-square-foot original Cold War-era SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) is also located in the school’s expansion. The historically significant structure will be preserved and repurposed for teachers and students. The school’s business partnership with the Cold War Museum in Vint Hill includes plans to mount accurate historical markers and train student docents to guide tours for the public.

The school’s growth is driving the need for expansion. Head of School Amber Sabia was quoted as saying, “Our student population grew by 40 percent last year, necessitating a move from our previous facility. We expect to add another 70 students which will increase total enrollment to 275 students for 2018-2019.”

Construction on the expansion has begun and is expected to be completed in July, the news release said.
