Court okays release of juvenile’s name in Gainesville murder case; PWC Police offer $5000 reward

Murder Investigation *SUSPECTS IDENTIFIED –
On May 10, detectives with the Prince William County Police Department’s Violent Crimes Bureau identified two suspects sought in connection to the fatal shooting that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) on May 8. One of the suspects is a juvenile.

Detectives subsequently obtained arrest warrants for the adult suspect, and a detention order for the juvenile suspect. Attempts to locate both suspects have been unsuccessful, according to First Sgt. Jonathan Perok, who heads the PWPD’s public information office.

Pursuant to a court order issued today, May 12, 2022, by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Prince William County, the Prince William County Police Department received authorization to publicly release the identifying information of the juvenile sought in connection with this investigation.

Now police are asking for the public’s help locating the suspects. PWPD is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Both individuals should be considered armed and dangerous. The investigation continues.

Wanted:
Malachi Thaddeus COLEMAN, 20, of the 7500 block of Equinox Landing Ct, Gainesville
Described as a black male, 5’11”, 160lbs with black hair and brown eyes
Wanted for 2nd degree murder, robbery, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony

Wanted:
Keyontae Glenell NEWMAN, 16, of the 1400 block of Oriskany Way in Woodbridge
Described as a black male, 5’10”, 160lbs with black hair and brown eyes
Wanted for 2nd degree murder

Identified:
The deceased was identified as Michael ARTHUR, 18, of Widewater Dr in Dumfries

Homicide Investigation [Previously Released] – On May 8 at 1:58AM, officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) an hour prior. An adult man suffering multiple gunshot wounds was brought to an area hospital by an acquaintance. Hospital staff notified police. A short time later, the man was pronounced dead. The investigation revealed the man was shot following an altercation that reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate the crime scene where the incident occurred. No other injuries were reported. Two parked and unoccupied vehicles sustained damage from being struck by gunfire. Preliminarily, the incident does not appear to be random and there is no active threat to the community. The investigation continues.
