County police officer hurt, sustains suspected concussion in encounter with suspect in Woodbridge

**ARRESTS**

Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On December 29 at 7:46PM, a Prince William County police officer conducted a vehicle stop in the area of West Longview Dr and Princess Anne Ln in Woodbridge (22191). During the officer’s contact at the vehicle, he observed a rear passenger appearing to conceal suspected narcotics under the floor mat.

The officer attempted to detain the accused, which led to a physical altercation. During the encounter, radio contact was lost with the officer and an emergency tone was broadcast. Additional officers responded and the accused continued to fight. The accused was eventually subdued and detained.

Two other occupants, including the driver, fled on foot during the altercation and were not involved in the assault on the officer. Two police K-9s and a helicopter from Fairfax County police responded to search for those occupants who were not located.

The officer involved in the altercation was believed to have sustained a concussion and was flown to an area hospital as a precaution for treatment. The officer has since been treated and released. The accused sustained minor injuries and was also treated and released from an area hospital. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Jose Noe MARTINEZ RIVERA, was arrested.
