Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) issued the following statement on the The Hire More Heroes Act being signed into law:
“One of the first pieces of legislation I originally cosponsored and voted for was the The Hire More Heroes Act and I am happy to see it was signed into law today.
“This common-sense bipartisan law will help provide economic security to our men and women who have sacrificed so much and who are now seeking jobs here at home.
” The Hire More Heroes Act will also help many small businesses find dedicated, hard-working employees who are experienced veterans and who have served their country.”
According to the US Chamber of Commerce, 71% of small business owners say Obamacare makes it more difficult for them to hire more employees.
Under current law, companies with 50 or more full-time workers must offer health insurance to their employees.
The Hire More Heroes Act states that veterans enrolled in healthcare provided through the VA or Tricare (eight million veterans receive healthcare through the VA) are exempt from being counted as part of the 50 full-time employee threshold that forces small business owners to provide insurance.
This legislation will encourage companies to hire more veterans and keep firms from cutting back on employees to stay under the 50 person mandate, according to a news release from Comstock’s office.
