The office of Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) reports that the Congressman is one of eight members of a House of Representatives’ delegation who flew out of the U.S. on Friday, March 4 on a bipartisan oversight trip to see firsthand the humanitarian crisis created by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Connolly, who represents part of eastern Prince William County, is President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
According to a news release, the delegation will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, national and local and Polish officials, USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Team, and Ukrainian civil society activists. Also, members of the Congressional delegation will receive briefings from the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, meet with U.S. service members, and assess the needs at the Polish border which has received the largest influx of refugees fleeing Ukraine.
Besides Connolly, Representatives on the trip are Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), Ranking Member, and Reps. Ann Wagner (R-MO), David Cicilline (D-RI), Brian Fitzpatrick, (R-PA), Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-CA) and Susan Wild (D-PA).
