Congress member-elect Barbara Comstock has been named to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee for the 114th Congress.
Comstock will be sworn in on January 6th and will represent Virginia’s 10th Congressional District in the new Congress. The seat is being vacated by longtime Congressman Frank Wolf.
She was quoted in a news release as saying, “I am ready to get to work and improve the lives of my constituents and these important committee assignments will enable me to do just that. I look forward to working with Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and the full committee to address the unique transportation issues facing the District and our country.”
“...Comstock has shown her tenacity to work for her constituents on the local level and I am sure that she will bring that same work ethic to the Committee,” Shuster (was quoted as saying.
“As Chairwoman of the Science and Technology Committee in the Virginia House of Delegates I am keenly aware of how these technology issues affect job growth in Northern Virginia,” said Comstock. “Data centers are economic growth incubators for Northern Virginia, and with my seat on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I look forward to continue the work I did in Richmond on these important 21st century job-creating issues.”
House Committee on Transportation on Infrastructure has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads. The Committee also has jurisdiction over other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and waste water management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the management of federally owned real estate and public buildings, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, and hazardous materials transportation.
The Committee’s broad oversight portfolio includes Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, Amtrak, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, General Services Administration, Army Corps of Engineersnd others.
House Committee on Science, Space, and Technologyhas jurisdiction over all energy research, development, and demonstration, and projects therefor, and all federally owned or operated non-military energy laboratories; astronautical research and development, including resources, personnel, equipment, and facilities; civil aviation research and development; environmental research and development; marine research; commercial application of energy technology; National Institute of Standards and Technology, standardization of weights and measures and the metric system; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Science Foundation; National Weather Service; outer space, including exploration and control thereof; science scholarships; scientific research, development, and demonstration, and projects therefor. The committee continually reviews and studies laws, programs, and government activities relating to non-military research and development.
