The Virginia Writers Club (VWC) has announced two 2012 competitions: the Virginia Writers Club Scholarship competition, with entries due by May 1, and the Young Virginia Writers Club Golden Nib Writing Contest, with entries due by Sept. 3.
The Virginia Writers Club will award a $500 scholarship to a current high school or home-schooled senior who will be enrolled at an accredited college or university during the next academic year. The Golden Nib Writing Contest is a middle school and high school student competition. First-, second- and third-place monetary awards will be presented in three categories: poetry, fiction and nonfiction. For the first time this year, the VWC will award an overall grand prize of a Kindle Fire. The teacher who sponsors the grand prize winner will also receive a Kindle Fire.
