Local churches are gearing up for celebrations of Christmas. Come celebrate with them as they celebrate Christ’s birth in many different ways. Here’s a look (in alphabetical order of churches’ names) at some offerings to help locals remember the reason for the season.
Battlefield Baptist Church will have Hanging of the Greens on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. On Dec. 11 at 10 a.m., the church will have a Happy Birthday Jesus celebration with the Tim Greene Trio. Centreville Baptist Church will perform “The Great Christmas Giveaway,” their children’s choir Christmas musical program on Dec. 3 and 4 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. On Dec. 17 and 18 at 6 p.m. Act 1 (All Christian Theatre) will present “Do We Still Remember?” a retelling of the Christmas story in a contemporary setting. Centreville Presbyterian Church, at 15450 Lee Highway, will have thematic worship each Sunday beginning Nov. 27 at 8:45 and 11 a.m., which will be “The Advent Conspiracy Continues, Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, Love All.” Each week the congregation will explore these areas to enhance our understanding of Christmas. On Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., the church will hold a Service of Hope, which will focus on when holidays feel anything but joyful. The holidays are difficult for anyone trying to cope with loss, loneliness and despair. The service will help those that are experiencing difficulties to find joy in the Christmas season. Gateway Bible Church, which meets at Gainesville Middle School at 8001 Limestone Dr., will begin a Christmas series entitled “What do you give the person who has everything?” on Dec. 4 during its 10 a.m. worship. The church will host a women’s brunch and cookie exchange on Dec. 3 and a Christmas dinner party on Dec. 10. Greenwich Presbyterian Church, at 15305 Vint Hill Road in Nokesville, will have Nov. 27 services at 8, 9:30, and 11 a.m. to recognize the first day of Advent. On Dec. 4, the Woodbridge Flute Choir will play during the 11 a.m. service. On Dec. 10 at 3 p.m., the Woodbridge Flute Choir will perform seasonal and classical favorites. The performance will benefit the nonprofit Farthest Corners. On Dec. 11, the chancel and handbell choir will offer a concert of Christmas music at the 8 and 11 a.m. services. The 9:30 a.m. will be a regular service. A breakfast potluck will held in the fellowship hall from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 11. House of Prayer, which meets at Bull Run Middle School at 6308 Catharpin Road in Gainesville, will host normal worship services on Sundays during advent from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The church can be reached by calling 703-753-2035. Its website is http://www.myhouseofprayer.org .
Manassas Assembly of God will have Thanksgiving services on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 27 at 9 and 10:45 a.m. Imagine Christmas Concerts will be held on Dec. 10 at 4 and 6 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 9 and 11 a.m. The concerts are free to the public. Manassas Baptist Church holds services at 8730 and 8800 Sudley Road, the sanctuary at 8800 Sudley Road and The Rock worship center at 8730 Sudley Road. The church website is http://www.manassasbaptist.org The t.heme for this year’s Advent and Christmas Season is “Give This Christmas Away.” The church family is encouraged to engage in service projects and outreach. On Dec. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m., the contemporary worship team, Stained Glass, will present “Imagine” in the worship center of the Rock building. “Imagine” is a modern, multimedia presentation of the Christmas story with music and drama. On Dec. 11at 9:30 a.m. “Winter’s Grace: A Cantata for Christmas” will be presented by the sanctuary choir. This cantata by Joseph Martin features narration and instrumental accompaniment along with the choir.
Manassas Church of the Brethren’s advent theme is “Receiving the Gift.” The Advent celebration begins Nov. 27 and concludes on Christmas Sunday during 11 a.m. services.
