Caller hears shots; officers find shell casings; bullet later found in unrelated apartment

Shooting Investigation – On August 9 at 4:41PM, officers with the Prince William County Police Department responded to the Riverwoods Apartments located in the 2700 block of Dettingen Pl in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. The caller reported to police that gunfire was heard in the above area before two men were seen fleeing in a vehicle.

The caller reported to police that one of the men appeared to be injured. Officers arrived and located shell casings in the parking area. Officers also checked the area for victims or other parties involved. No victims or property damage were reported at the time of the initial response. During the investigation, officers were able to possibly identify the injured party, identified as a 19-year-old man. Officers made phone contact with the man who reported that he was struck, causing a minor injury.

The man would not advise officers of his exact location to have his injuries and welfare assessed further. The incident supposedly stemmed from a misunderstanding between known parties. Later that evening, a resident in an apartment unrelated to the initial incident reported that a bullet entered the residence. No injuries were reported.
