Residential Burglary | Felony Animal Cruelty – On April 17th at 3:43PM, police responded to the 7500 block of Quail Run Ln in Manassas (20109) for a burglary. Homeowner reported to police that during the day, someone entered her residence through an unlocked basement sliding glass door. The homeowner discovered blood throughout the residence and reported that both of her dogs, a male and female West Highland Terrier, were missing.
The homeowner also received a call from an area vet informing her that one of the dogs, the male, was found injured by a passing motorist and had been brought into the facility for treatment. A separate caller reported to police that a female dog was found deceased in a trash bag with her mouth and legs duct taped together in the area of Copeland Dr. The dog was later determined to be the homeowner’s second dog reported missing during the burglary.
Detectives were able to determine that the suspect, identified as the accused, was responsible for the burglary. The accused is known to the victim and this incident stemmed from a relationship dispute between the two parties.
The investigation revealed that the accused had entered the residence and duct taped both of the dog’s legs and mouths before putting them in his trunk. The accused then drove to the area of Copeland Dr where he dumped the female dog on the side of the road where she was later found by a citizen. The accused was then driving in the area of Thoroughfare Dr when he discovered the second dog had gotten out of the restraints and was moving around in the trunk. At that point, the accused let the dog go where he was later found by a passing motorist and taken to an animal hospital.
On April 22nd, a search warrant was executed at the residence of the accused located at 7567 Quail Run Ln in Manassas (separate residence from the victim). As a result of the search, evidence from the incident was recovered. Following the investigation the accused was subsequently arrested. The male dog has been treated and returned back to the homeowner.
