On Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at 9:14 p.m., Fire Marshals from Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue, were summoned to a report of a fire incident in the 13400 block of Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, according to a news release.
The call originated as a police incident of a male, Intoxicated in Public, who attempted to ignite an item on fire, inside a restaurant, but failed, according to Kim Hylander, spokesman for PWC Dept. of Fire and Rescue
Upon exiting the restaurant, the suspect proceeded to ignite a flag hanging on the exterior entrance of the building, Hylander added, and the fires were extinguished by employees, preventing damages and extension of the fire to the building.
Prior to arrival of the Fire Marshals, Prince William County police officers detained the suspect for questioning. During the interview, the suspect provided a full confession and written statement.
The following charges were placed and the suspect was arrested.
Arrested on September 5th:
JOSE SANCHEZ aka AYALA SANCHEZ, 24, of 14619 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, Va.
Charged with:
§18.2-80 Arson to an occupied building (Felony).
§18.2-26 Attempted Arson to an occupied building (Felony).
Additional charges of Intoxication in Public were placed by Prince William County Police Department.
