Maurice Thomson Michaely of Haymarket VA was arrested and charged on Nov. 29, 2012 with burning or destroying a dwelling house in connection with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church fire last August. Officers from Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with Prince William County Police made the arrest, according to Curtis Brodie, CFEI, deputy fire marshal for Prince William County.
The arrest resulted from an investigation into an Aug. 10, 2012 structure fire at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church located at 15008 Lee Highway, Brodie said.
According to a news release from Brodie, the Fire Marshal’s Office investigation with the assistance of officials from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) determined that the fire was intentionally set. In the months following the fire, additional information was collected which led investigators to the suspect, the news release said.
Michaely is currently being held without bond and a court date is set for January 23, 2013.
Although there is a suspect in custody, the investigation into this case is ongoing, the fire marshal noted.
