The Annual Suicide Awareness Walk will be held for the second year at Forest Park High School (FPHS) on Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. Forest Park High School is located at 15721 Forest Park Drive, Woodbridge VA 22193.
State Senator Jeremy McPike will be the keynote speaker and Congressman Gerry Connolly will also be on hand to deliver remarks.
The community is invited to join students at Forest Park or along the route from Forest Park to Hylton High School and back, a total of six miles.
There will be three water stations manned by the FPHS ROTC. Water and breakfast bars will be available and the event is free and open to everyone.
Walkers can write the name of a loved one lost to suicide on the memory scroll. There will be signs along the way between Forest Park and Hylton – with hopeful messages and some with statistics.
This is a community walk, being hosted by Forest Park High School. Many groups will be there to support the issues under the umbrella of suicide and mental health, including PTSD, Freeze Bullying for Peyton, etc. A crisis team will be present to help those who need it.
Organizers invite the public to join as they “take the U out of Suicide—“You are not alone.”
