Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) has received a $20,000 grant from the Stafford Hospital (SH) Community Service Fund in support of ACTS Helpline. A press release said ACTS will use the grant “to provide services to those in need in the communities served by the foundation.”
ACTS Helpline is a free, confidential 24-hour telephone service. Caring listeners help callers with problem solving and crisis solutions and provide information about available community services. The ACTS Helpline service includes a Senior Link which is a free call reassurance program providing scheduled phone calls to senior citizens or physically disadvantaged shut-ins.
Helpline provides several support groups to help those in need in our community. Surviving After Suicide (SAS) is a free, confidential, non-judgmental, mutual self-help support group whose goal is to provide support in a safe environment to family members and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Renewed Hope is a support group for suicide attempters that provides a caring environment where individuals can connect with others who have attempted suicide.
Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) trained volunteers are available to provide onsite support and resource information to newly bereaved suicide survivors.
The grant from the Stafford Hospital (SH) Community Service Fund provides financial assistance to expand the support group and Senior Link services to Northern Stafford County.
ACTS is now accepting applications from volunteers to assist in providing these services and is extending invitations to those that are interested in participating in a support group or the Senior Link program to contact ACTS Helpline.
