As of today, October 1, 2013, ACTS (Action in Community Through Service) will oversee the daily management and operation of the Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center.
The transition is the result of a public request for proposal (RFP) process by the Prince William County Department of Social Services (DSS). The agency had sought the services of a third-party contractor with experience and technical ability to oversee the Barg Center in Woodbridge.
The previous contractor, Volunteers of America (VOA),operated through September 30, when DSS, ACTS and VOA met at 10 p.m. at the shelter to transition keys, client files, assets and standard operating procedures over to ACTS to ensure that operations continue without interruption or quality of service.
“ACTS is a long-time partner with Prince William County, and has a wealth of experience working with the homeless and transitional housing population here in the community,” said Janine Sewell, DSS Director. “They presented a strong proposal during our RFP process, and we fully expect that the Hilda M. Barg Shelter will continue to help those within our community in need of temporary shelter.”
This 30-bed, short-term shelter assists families and single adults in developing plans personalized to the clients’ unique situations to promote self-sufficient living.
The shelter offers specialized services including: case management, job readiness, mental health counseling and medical referrals. The shelter is open year-round, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and is located at 14945 Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1), between Dale Blvd. & Opitz Blvd. in Woodbridge.
