48 Fauquier students gearing up to participate in school division spelling bee

Fauquier County Public Schools Division Spelling Bee will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Taylor Middle School auditorium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. (Snow date is Saturday, Feb. 4, same time, same place.)

Some 48 students, representing 11 elementary schools and five middle schools, will participate in the school division bee as winners of their school-level or grade-level spelling bees. TMS reading specialist John Lucas is the school division’s bee coordinator, and Dr. Eileen Burgwyn, retired FCPS instructional supervisor and current interim associate superintendent for instruction, will serve as the pronouncer. 

The winner of this competition will advance to the 12th Annual Free Lance-Star Regional Spelling Bee to be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

The regional winner will be eligible to participate in the 90th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor, MD, May 28-June 3, 2017.
