Comcast to expand broadband internet to more people by donating $15 M digital service and equipment

Comcast reports that it has instituted new steps to help advance digital equity for more students and families. According to a news release, Comcast will donate Internet service and equipment worth $15 million. This includes 25,000+ laptops to low-income students, seniors, veterans, and adults.

Internet Essentials, described as “the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program for low-income households,” is expanding eligibility to Federal Pell Grant recipients, according to the news release.
Comcast is marking the 10th anniversary of its Internet Essentials program, which has connected a cumulative total of more than 10 million people to the Internet at home – most for the very first time, the release said.

The announcement is part of Project UP, Comcast’s “comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities.”
