Basebal bat and tire iron used in incident at Woodbridge home, police report

Malicious Wounding – On June 13 at 1:30AM, Prince William County police officers responded to investigate an assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the 1800 block of Carter Ln. in Woodbridge (22191) earlier that morning.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, reported to police that he and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused struck the victim with a baseball bat before striking the victim’s vehicle with a tire iron.

The accused fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim went to a local hospital for treatment of significant injuries. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Kevin RIVAS-CORTEZ, who was taken into custody later that day without incident.

Charged with malicious wounding and felony destruction of property
