Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre is offering people interested in learning about a farming a peek into the past. For the fourth year running, the Centre will offer what Michael Riley, site manager for the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre, which is part of the Prince William County’s Division of Historic Preservation, described as “a great opportunity to gain insight into the lifestyles of everyday people in antebellum Northern Virginia.”
The stop on the 2011 Wild Western Prince William County Farm Tour “focuses on the Haislip House, which is a typical farmstead found in rural Piedmont” of Virginia, he explained. Visitors are welcome between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 24 and between noon and 4 p.m. on Sept. 25.
Activities available that day will include “day-to-day chores children and adults would undertake to maintain a farmstead.” The Centre is “a good place for people to visit to see an average farm and the responsibilities involved while most people are familiar with the great plantations (think Mount Vernon, Monticello) fewer folks have experienced what life was like for the common people,” he continued.
