Suzette Kapp sees it as a labor of love. She’s been working at the Prince William County Children’s Farm and adjacent Animal Shelter off Bristow Road for 20 years; four of those, most recently, as head caretaker and volunteer and educational coordinator.
The farm will be open as part of the Wild Western Prince William County Farm Tour, Sept. 24 and 25.
Kapp has lived in the county since 1985. She currently resides in the Independent Hill area of Manassas.
Kapp grew up with dogs, cats, guinea pigs, horses, chickens and ducks. As an adult, she’s owned everything from ferrets to birds to rabbits. She now owns two dogs: Dallas, 6, a boxer; and Skipper, 8, a dachshund – both from the shelter. Kapp brings an extensive knowledge of animal health and behavior to her job at the Animal Farm and the Animal Shelter.
“I obviously have a deep love for animals and being able to have a job where I can work with them on a daily basis makes me happy,” she said. “I personally raised the goats and sheep that currently reside at the farm and was able to give my children the opportunity to be involved in raising the animals. They enjoyed bottle feeding the babies and spending time with them to make them childproof.”
