Traffic for the afternoon commute on Sept. 8 was a nightmare. Commuters who travel on 495 may have experienced traffic at a standstill.
On Sept. 9, some area roads were covered with water. TV news stations were showing pictures of cars sitting in hood-deep water.
According to the National Weather Service’s radar online application, Prince William County received between six and 15 inches of rain from 1 p.m. Sept. 5 through 11 a.m. Sept. 9. The eastern end of the county received the most rainfall.
Fauquier County received a couple inches less than western Prince William County.
By 1 p.m. Sept. 9, the sun was shining and the day was brightening considerably.
