No Aug. 23 primary elections in Manassas city

No primary election, no ballots, no election at all is the story this month in the City of Manassas.
The city was planning a Republican primary election Aug. 23 between incumbent sheriff Glendell Hill and Michael Messier. Since Messier has decided to run as an independent in the Nov. 8 general election, the primary was not needed, said Ann Marie Bausch, city deputy voter registrar.
“There’s been no redistricting, no split precincts. The lines on map (for redistricting) did not come through Manassas,” Bausch observed Aug. 8. “We’re gearing up for November.”
Any new voters who registered to vote before the Aug. 1 cutoff will be receiving new voter registration cards. Registrations after that date will be held until the registration books open again Aug. 24.
