“ … beauty will fade and riches will flee, pleasures they dwindle and prices they double, and nothing is as I would wish it to be.” Immortalized in a song, those are the somber thoughts of many women during the Civil War.
To understand what some women experienced during the Civil War, Judy Cook of Laurel, Md., presented a program called “Women of the Civil War” during a special evening program Aug. 6 in the Henry Hill Visitor Center at Manassas National Battlefield Park.
