Driver of red Jeep sought in attempted wounding of off-duty police officer at Occoquan show

Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On September 26th at 4:42PM, a Prince William County police sergeant was working an off-duty assignment at the Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show in the Town of Occoquan (22125) when the driver of a red Jeep Cherokee was observed going through an area which had been blocked off by cones.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, the police sergeant in full uniform went to make contact with the driver.

As the police sergeant walked in front of the vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated forward. The police sergeant was able to avoid being struck or injured. After the encounter, the vehicle fled the area.

A short time later, a caller reported that a vehicle matching this description was being operated in a reckless manner in a nearby residential area in the 100 block of Gordon Blvd. When officers arrived, the vehicle was found abandoned and unoccupied.

Additional officers, including a police K-9, and helicopter assistance from Fairfax police were used to search the immediate area for the driver who was not located.

While investigating, detectives learned that the vehicle was a rental and are attempting to identify the driver who was not on the lease.

The vehicle had also sustained damage and is possibly connected to a hit & run incident currently being investigated by the Virginia State Police.

The driver of the vehicle could only be described as a male, possibly Hispanic or Middle Eastern. The investigation continues.
