Community Health Fair Aug. 13-14 to offer wide range of screenings and services

In honor of National Health Center Week, Greater Prince William Community Health Center invites the public to its Community Health Fair, Aug. 13-14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its Woodbridge location, 4379 Ridgewood Center Drive.

The annual event promises a day of family fun, with free medical screenings, wellness education, children’s activities and free lunch.

“With many chronic conditions, such as diabetes or breast cancer, early detection can save lives,” says Health Center Executive Director George Barker. “Each year during National Health Center Week, we partner with Sentara, Novant, LabCorps and other organizations to provide health screenings valued at more than $250,000 to hundreds of area families who might not otherwise be able to afford these services.”

For those attendees who are found to have health problems, the fair will also offer resources for further information and treatment if needed.

Available screenings include those for ADHD, anxiety, breast cancer, cholesterol, dental disease, depression, diabetes, hearing, hypertension, obesity and vision.

Education will be available on prenatal care, breastfeeding and proper car seat installation.

Mammograms are free for qualifying individuals; appointments must be made in advance by calling either Sentara at 703-523-1560 or Novant Health at 703-369-8073.

Entertainment includes music, moon bounce, face painting and outdoor Wii games. Free lunch will be served from 11:30 am to 1:00 each day.

Volunteers are needed for event set up and break down, cooking and serving food and interacting with guests. No medical experience required to lend a helping hand.
