Temporary closing of I-66’s eastbound “X” lane; allow more time for morning commute

Motorists on eastbound I-66 were told to expect major delays during the morning rush Wednesday, July 29, as the right shoulder ‘X’ lane between Nutley Street and I-495 was closed for repairs to the concrete foundation of an overhead gantry for the under-construction Active Traffic Management System, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

In addition to the ‘X’ lane, the right regular lane of eastbound I-66 between Nutley Street and I-495 was closed beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. The regular lane was to reopen before 5 a.m. Wednesday. The ‘X’ lane was likely to remain closed through the morning rush.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead and allow extra time for their morning commutes.
