The “Building for America’s Bravest” team of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation will break ground Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at 13460 Nokesville Road, Nokesville, on a customized new “smart home” for Retired USMC Cpl. Adam Devine, who was catastrophically injured in Afghanistan.
The home will include a master suite with customized bathroom and special high-tech features throughout that can be run off an iPad, according to a news release.
A Purple Heart recipient, Devine lost multiple limbs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan, right after Christmas 2010. In addition, his left eardrum was perforated, and a bone at the base of his spine was broken. He credits his family, friends and positive outlook for his continuing recovery.
Devine, his family and friends will be in attendance for the groundbreaking along with Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Manassas Chorale, Patriot Guard Riders and Rolling Thunder from N.Y. The community is invited to attend.
This event is part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s “Building for America’s Bravest 4 for the 4th” program that will deliver the keys to, or break ground for, four homes for service members who have been catastrophically injured in war. The program’s aim is to give independence back to those who have paid a tremendous price for our freedom.
The Foundation’s mission is to honor the sacrifice of Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. Best known for its annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Walk/run in New York City, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
