Prince William County schools that were among the 109 schools earning Virginia Board of Education Excellence Awards were Mary G. Porter Traditional, Mountain View Elementary, Old Bridge Elementary, Pennington School and Thurgood Marshall Elementary.

Prince William County schools that were among the 137 schools earning Virginia Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Awards were Henderson Elementary, Antietam Elementary, Battlefield High, Buckland Mills Elementary, Cedar Point Elementary, Gainesville Middle, Glenkirk Elementary, J.W. Alvey Elementary, Louise A. Benton Middle, Signal Hill Elementary, T. Clay Wood Elementary, Victory Elementary and Westridge Elementary.

“These schools and divisions are laboratories for innovation that are preparing young Virginians to compete and succeed in a new Virginia economy,” Governor McAuliffe said. “I congratulate the students, teachers, principals, and communities whose efforts have turned their schools into leaders in training the workforce of the future.”

The awards are based on student achievement and other performance indicators during 2013-2014.
