Samantha Reed of Manassas assumed command of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets on Saturday, May 2 during a change of command-pass in review ceremony at the Drillfield in front of Burruss Hall in Blacksburg.
Reed took over as regimental commander from Cadet Col. Austin Dickey of Virginia Beach, who will be commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps following graduation later this month.
Reed is a member of Air Force ROTC and is a recipient of the Nicholas D. Street ‘53 Emerging Leader Scholarship. She is a junior majoring in meteorology in the College of Natural Resources and Environment who is also pursuing a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development as well as a minor in statistics from the College of Science.
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets has produced military, public, and corporate leaders since the university was founded in 1872. It is one of just two military corps within a large public university, according to a news release.
The corps holds its members to the highest standards of loyalty, honor, integrity, and self-discipline. In return, cadets achieve high academic success and a long-lasting camaraderie with fellow members. Virginia Tech, the most comprehensive university in Virginia, is dedicated to quality, innovation, and results to the commonwealth, the nation, and the world, the release stated.
